LEGION OF SUPERHEROES, MAXIMA  A GO, & MORE

Many Reports from Comic-Con have been flooding in about Smallville. What we have learned is several things. For one, MAXIMA WILL be in 8.04 Instinct... leading us to believe that Melissa is actually Maxima. Justin Hartley is growing a beard for an island scene.... flashback...also, Allison Mack will be directing episode 13 or 15 this season, as she was set to direct 7.20 this year but hadn't because it was a finale.

Erica Durance's character, Lois Lane, will factor heavily in the first four episode of the Season, and though the 13 Episode contract still stands, there is always room for more.

Some very interesting news came out about a certain Legion... of Superheroes...

Thats right, Geoff Johns, a very talented writer for DC Comics, will be writing an episode where Clark teams up with the Legion of Superheroes in Season 8. This is what Geoff Johns had to say on the matter:

"I think we're going to be able to stay pretty close to the origin of these characters. They are from 1,000 years in the future and they'll have flight rings and code names and everything else. It will be written to fit with Smallville, and I think it's going to be a really fun challenge to approach the Legion in a different way. But with me, you know you're going to see Legion rings, and they're going to be as true to the core as possible. It's going to be the Legion of Super-Heroes."

July 27, 2008 - Updates, Comic Con

Today's Panel at Comic-Con had some very interesting clips of Season 8.... This is how WizardUniverse.com described the video clip...

The screening turned out to be a never-before sneak peak of season eight. The trailer began with, "Every journey has a beginning," and showed iconic clips from the first season of "Smallville:" Kal-El as a baby being launched from Krypton and Martha and Jonathan Kent finding the baby Kryptonian. "Every boy becomes a man," showcased all of Clark's powers. "Every man will fall in love," showed clips of his star-crossed romance with Lana Lang. "Every hero discovers his destiny," showcased the creation of the Fortress of Solitude, Clark's battle with Lex, and the introduction of Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Green Arrow, the Justice League, and the Phantom Zone. "Every hero says goodbye," showed Jonathan's death, and Martha's exit from the series, and Lex leaving Clark at the graveyard. Then finally, "but every hero has a future…" We are introduced to Tess Mercer, see Clark getting beat up in Russia, Chloe saying she's not special while battling to get away from an assailant. The clips teased more Justice League, Chloe and Jimmy together, and Clark and Lois together at the daily planet. We also saw Green Arrow shooting Clark. Finally, the teaser ended with a S-pendant in Clark's hand, and a close up on Sam Witwer with a voice over saying, "There's something out there, and whatever it is, it can kill you."

As for the rest of the Q&A portion of the panel, there were a few interesting revelations...

The panel was then asked about whether the "Smallville" Justice League will make another appearance. Kelly Souders teased, "I will say watch the premiere episode of the season. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you're a Justice fan."

Brian Peterson teased a possible crossover with Supernatural by saying, "I can't confirm or deny anything right now." If you're looking for more characters, the creative team mentioned that DC has been great about working with them in order to open the door for a lot of new characters.

SMALLVILLE ISSUE 27 AVALIABLE

I meant to say something about this the day it came out... which was the 17th... but, better late than never. The 27th issue of Titan Magazine's SMALLVILLE MAGAZINE has been released. It contains several great things, such as interviews with Sam Jones III, Jason Connery, and James Marsters. It also contained Season 8 News, an interview with John Walsh, the Show's FX header, as well as an interview with Gina Holden. This issue also takes a look at Martian Manhunter's journey, from Strip to Screen. Also in a monthly feature, Beyond Smallville, takes a look at the connections between All-Star Superman and Smallville. There's also a pull-out poster, one side with Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl), and one side with James Marsters (Brainiac).

There is also a fake look at the history of Warrior Angel, written by Starkville's House of El's verry own DEREK RUSSELL (which is one of the reasons we bought the issue). You can find this issue at your local comic book/book store, or you can order it online here.

ERICA DURANCE CONTRACT FOR SEASON 8

TV Guide reported that while Erica Durance is back for Season Eight, the number of episodes she appears in remains the same, as has been the case since her joining the cast in Season Four. However, Erica may appear in one or two more episodes, if the arc or episode requires her to. (You can read the full article here)

From the TV Guide Website: Lois fans from Smallville have one request: Throw us a freakin' bone here! Please tell us she will finally be in every episode in Season 8. — Luke
Matt Mitovich:
Would that I could, Luke (and the scores of others seeking such assurance). But at this point I am hearing that Erica Durance's sitch remains "the same as always" — that is, she'll do 13 or so episodes — though there is a slight chance we may eke out an extra one or two. Small consolation, I know, but you should understand that delivering 22 episodes' worth of Lois... well, like Denise Richards, it is complicated.

JUSTIN HARTLEY... A SERIES REGULAR

We waited for several sites to confirm this, but it appears that Justin Hartley will not only be returing next year, but he will returning as a Series Regular, for 15+ episodes in Season 8.

It has been said that his storyline will invlove more of his past than of his superhero identity of Green Arrow. What does this mean? A probable Justice League return.

June 3, 2008

JUSTIN HARTLEY TO RETURN FOR SEASON 8

While Smallville News has been slow, some information on Justin Hartley's return next season has come out thanks to Kristin Vetch of E! Online. You can read the article here.

"Do you have any early scoop for next season on Smallville?
Yep! It's not easy being green, but apparently it pays to be Green Arrow. My sources tell me that Justin Hartley will be back on Smallville as Green Arrow/Oliver Queen for the majority of the season." I have to admit, I am happy about that and maybe it will mean a return for the JLA!

    GREEN ARROW MOVIE IN WORKS!greenarrow2.jpg

If our sources are correct, a new movie, GREEN ARROW: ESCAPE FROM SUPERMAX is to be made in the coming year. Whether this is another project such as Supermax that didn't hit it off remains to be seen. Hollywood Reporter as well as many other verifiable sources have confirmed the movie.

Escape from Supermax is to feature a Rogues Gallery, with cameos and appearances by The Riddler, Lex Luthor, Floronic Man (he was played by John Glover in Batman & Robin), as well as several other villains.

To read the full article, click here.

Also, one year ago in WIZARD MAGAZINE, David Goyer had this to say on the film.

He's Green Arrow for the first 10 minutes of the movie, and then he's arrested and his secret identity is revealed. They shave his goatee and they take his costume and send him to prison for life, and he has to escape. It's like Alcatraz and he has to team up with some of the villains he is responsible for incarcerating, in order to get out and clear his name. Of course, tons of people try to kill him while he's in there. We've populated the prison with all sorts of villains from the DC Universe. For the fans, there will be all sorts of characters the hardcore comicbook junkies will know, but they're all going to be there under their human names and no one is wearing a costume, but there will be a lot of characters with powers and things like that."

Goyer recently confirmed this again on his Myspace Page. He had this to say: "Yes, it's a real project. It's just in the early stages of development, but amongst the tidal wave of super-hero movies hitting the screen, this more classically post-modern take could be pretty damn fun. The basic concept actually came about through Justin Marks, a terrific young writer my wife Jessika (a producer) had previously worked with. They thought the idea of a prison-break story set in a jail designed exclusively for super-villains was a cool one. And I heartily agreed. After some discussion, we decided it would be fun to frame a superhero and toss him into the meta-human mix."

So... if it is true, then we will bring you all of the latest news as it comes out. Also, Troy has some thought son the movie and will be posting his thoughts later on in the day.

SEASON 7 RELEASE DATE & SEASON 8 SPOILERS

Today the release date for the Season Seven DVD set was announced. The DVD For Season Seven will be released on September 9, 2008.

Also, Kristin from E Online has a few new details on Lois Lane and Davis Bloome/Doomsday in Season Eight, and some news on Laura Vandervoort. To read the article, go here.

Is Laura Vandervoort really out of Smallville next season, or is it still up in the air? I really like her, and they could have done so much more with her!

I'm told she isn't going to be a regular, but they're hoping she'll be able to return and guest star in an episode or two. Meanwhile, if you're a Laura Vandervoort fan, hang in there for Into the Blue 2. Audrina from The Hills, who has a small part in the movie, is getting all the press, but Laura's the lead!

Any scoop on Doomsday from Smallville?

Looks like Davis Bloome aka Doomsday is forming quite an interesting relationship with one Miss Lois Lane! Sources tell me the first time we meet Davis is when he is attempting to pick up Lois at Ace of Clubs. Still, don't expect things to get too steamy between the couple - I'm also hearing that Davis Bloome is something of a Jekyll and Hyde.

LAURA VANDERVOORT NOT IN SEASON 8, KARA CHRONICLES 4-5

TV Guide has just reported that Laura Vandervoort will NOT be returning for Season 8. How will they do this since Kara is in the Zone? She might appear in a few episodes, but not as a regular. From TV Guide:

As fans noticed in the CW's upfronts announcement earlier this week, "They announced the cast... and I'm not a part of it," Vandervoort tells me, letting out a self-effacing laugh. "We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular, but I'm sure I'll be back for one or two [episodes]!"

Looking at the bright side, she notes, "The show is about Clark Kent, and I was honored to be a part of it. I mean, my character became more than it was supposed to be. She ended up sticking around the entire season."

In Kara related news, the CW has released the foruth AND fifth episodes for Kara Chronicles. You can view them here. Troy's review of the spin-off will be up within the next few days.

    WILL JUSTIN HARTLEY BE RETURNING?

Justin Hartley, known in such roles as AlMiles' Aquaman: Mercy Reef and as Green Arrow on Smallville, will probably be returing more next season. Austin Golden Hour, the pilot Jutsin filmed, has been passed by The CW, meaning that Justin Hartley could possibly be returning more next season.

Mike Ausiello from TV Guide has said the same kind of thing, and it is highly likely that Green Arrow will make more than a one-episode appearance. Stay tuned for more on this.

    ALLISON MACK STAYING

TV Guide's Ausiello has confirmed that Allison Mack has signed a deal to appear in the eighth season of Smallville. Before this, no deal had been made for her continuing on the show.

After Michael Rosenbaum announced he was leaving, it was speculated that Allison Mack may also be leaving, but this has now turned out to be false, she will be here for Season 8.

    May 13, 2008

OFFICIAL CW WRITE UP & IS OR ISN'T ALLISON MACK LEAVING?

This Week's Ausiello Report says that it is looking more and more like Allison Mack will NOT be returning next season, although nothing is confirmed at this point.

Havig seen the Season Sven Finale ARCTIC hmself, Ausiello says that Smallville Writers would have no trouble not having Chloe around next year.

You can view Ausiello's Video here.

Also, it looks like Smallville and Supernatural will both be keeping their Thursday night Timeslots next Season. The CW has released their Official Write-Up for Smallville:

"Returning for its eighth season, this new interpretation of the enduring Superman mythology and its classic characters blends realism and adventure into an exciting action series. Last season, Clark Kent and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) became the sworn enemies that comic book aficionados have always known and loved. The season also brought storylines of Krypton and the El family, including the arrival of Clark's cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and the return of Brainiac (James Marsters).

There were also exciting guest stars from the Superman mythology, including Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark") and Helen Slater ("Supergirl"). Clark discovered more about his home planet, who his parents were, what his future holds and why he was sent to Earth. The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen. Reinterpreting the Superman mythology from its roots, SMALLVILLE was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "Spiderman 2"), based on the DC Comics characters. The executive producers are Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster."

Kristin Kreuk is on The Cast list.... however Laura Vandervoort is not but It may mean nothing.... and Allison Mack is not on the cast list either.... more nes on this to come.

SMALLVILLE FEATURED IN TV GUIDE & 6 NEW PROMO PHOTOS

This week's TV Guide Magazine has a photo of Clark and Jimmy (confirming Troy's suspicions) and a little info on the Season Seven Finale. Here is what the article said:

After seven seasons and countless schemes Lex ( Michael Rosenbaum) may finally have Clark’s( Tom Welling) number. ” The finale deals with what could be the [culmination] of Lex’s quest …and potentially the most devastating blow that Clark Kent has ever faced” reveals exec- producer Al Gough. Could that blow have to do with the news that Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk ( Lana) will not be back as regulars next season? “Some character’s journeys come to an end” teases Gough, whose own journey stops here too: He and co-creator Miles Millar announced in April that they were leaving the series after the finale- right after launching one last Brainiac ( James Marsters) attack on the good folks of Smallville. “He’s back with a score to settle”.

Is this it for Lex? Or do the spoilers for Season 8 about Eve Teschm- ahem. "Tess" hint that Lex will be around but not seen. (Alive, but out doing other things) Tune in to Arctic this Thursday at 8PM only on The CW and find out!

Also, the CW has released six new promo photos of Brainiac and Clark... shooting down Troy's idea that it was Clark putting Jimmy to the Electric Death....sorry Troy! You can find these in our blogs, where Troy has dicussed them as well as in our Photo Gallery.

    ALLISON MACK LEAVING SMALLVILLE?

TV Guide's Ausiello says that Allison Mack may very well also be leaving at the end of Season 7, and with no spoilers about Chloe for Season 8, things are looking grim.

"Allison's camp used Michael leaving as leverage in the negotiations with [Warner Bros.]," says one Smallville source, who adds that  Kristin Kreuk's decision to only return for a handful of episodes as Lana only strengthened Mack's bargaining position. "They need Chloe now more than ever - and Allison's people know it." (Mack's reps declined to comment for this story.)

But will the studio suits budge? In this climate, with ratings down by double digits and belt-tightening going on everywhere, no one is optimistic. However, everyone pretty much agrees about one thing: Smallville can't afford to lose Mack right now. "If Allison leaves, they've essentially got Lois and Clark left," notes one insider. "And that show's been done before."

You can read the full article here, but stay tuned for updates on Allison Mack's depature or stay....

We have some news on who is still staying for Season 8: Tom Welling, Erica Durace, Laura Vandervoort, Aaron Ashmore, and Kristin Kreuk are all confirmed cast members, and Allison Mack is still under the Negotian stage, along with the two new characters showing up next season, Doomsday and the Female Villain. (Who Troy still thinks is Lori Lemaris) As soon as anything surfaces we will be sure to let you know.

Also, It appears Robert Picardo of Star Trek Voyager Fame will not only be appearing in Quest but Arctic as well.

    May 1, 2008 - More News

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM LEAVES SMALVILLE, TWO SEASON 8 CHARACTERS REVEALED, KARA CHRONICLES 1 & 2

We have just a bit more news for today. First off, Troy's Review of Apocalypse will be up by Sunday or Saturday night, along with the full episode from Youtube. Troy had a few thoughts on SPOILER[Brainiac as Kara in Apocalypse] on his blog here on our site.

The trailer for QUEST can be seen below, and the Director's Cut will be up in a few days.

Also, judging by the trailer and some news he posted on his website, Robert Picardo (Best known as Doc from Star Trek Voyager) will be playing the last member of Veritas.

In the BIG news, Season 8 cast was revealed and it was also revealed that Michael Rosenbaum... will be leaving the show in Arctic and not returning in Season 8. Here is the letter Mr. Rosenbaum has written:

    "Dear Smallville Fans,

Well, it's been seven wonderful years.  Your support is what has made Smallville so successful, and I appreciate you all more than you know.

That being said, it is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career.  I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying.  I am truly grateful, as Smallville fans are the best fans out there.  I sincerely hope that you will continue to follow my career through my hair growth period and beyond.

I'm very excited about what the future holds, but certainly, Smallville will always be a part of me.  I will definitely miss the greatest crew in the world, and the wonderful cast that has been like a family to me.

Thank you Al and Miles for creating the show.  Thank you writers, producers, directors and editors. Thanks Tollin, Robbins and Davola for being there for the pilot. Thank you Peter Roth for employing me for ten years.  Lisa Lewis, I miss you already.  John Glover, thanks for helping me feel more comfortable touching other actors, while acting. Bizarre, but helpful.

Mostly, I want to thank Greg Beeman for directing the "Oh Sherry" video, by Steve Perry, back in the 80's.

Thanks crew. Thanks fans. Thanks Smallville.

    I love you all,

    Michael Rosenbaum"

In response, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin, Kelly Souders and Darren Swimmer made a statement about Michael's Departure:

It has been an honor and pleasure to work with Michael for the past seven seasons. He is one of the best actors on television and has never failed to bring a new layer to the character of Lex Luthor in every episode. While Michael won’t be a series regular and we won’t have the pleasure of working with him on a weekly basis this fall, we like to think that we haven’t seen the last of Lex Luthor. Stay tuned."

Also, because of Michael leaving the show, two new characters will be introduced to the show... Doomsday... and a Female Villian. Who this Female is at this point is currently unknown, although because of TV Guide's Ausiello saying that Lori Lemaris may be in Season 8, Lori could turn out to be that villain. Here are the statements released for these two new Characters:

Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on “Smallville” for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.

Female villain: Doomsday won’t be Clark’s only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

SMALLVILLE LEGENDS: KARA AND THE CHRONICLES OF KRYPTON have had two releases so far on their website, with the first and second episodes. You can view them here and they will be on our blogs in a few days for viewing.
