Written By: Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer, Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson
Directed By: Kevin Fair
Guest Stars: Alaina Huffman (Black Canary), Alan Ritchson (Aquaman), Phil Morris (John Jones/Martian Manhunter)
UPDATED 8/27/08: TV Guide reveals that it's the Justice Leaguewho saves Clark, as Aquaman, Black Canary, and Green Arrow track down Clark at a "shady Russian work camp" and that Clark is powerless.
- "The Justice League will never be the same, and Clark Kent will never be the same," executive producer Todd Slavkin reveals about the episode. "The premiere pushes us into areas we've never explored before, mainly Clark's destiny."
UPDATED 7/27/08: We are unsure of what he is doing there, but in the Trailer shown at Comic-Con, Clark is being beaten up in Russia, saying he just wants to go home. Also, Lois is seen wearing a maid's uniform, infiltrating the Luthor Mansion. And for some reason... Oliver shoots at Clark.
UPDATED 7/3/08: FROM TV GUIDE: Get ready for the return of the Justice League. When Smallville comes back in September, the Super Friends reunite to search for Clark Kent, who went missing in May's season finale after tussling with Lex Luthor at the Fortress of Solitude. UPDATED 6/25/08: New Spoilers for Odyssey: - Casting is currently going on for "Kat," a young, eager assistant for Tess, who also makes her first appearance in Odyssey; and castong is underway for "Nikolai," a man who works on a boat with Clark near the Arctic. Roles also now being cast include a Researcher, a Scientist, and a Guard.
Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar have departed, so four of the series' longtime producers have taken over for Season 8. "Luckily [Al and Miles'] voices are still talking to us in our heads as we're breaking stories," says Kelly Souders, who is running the show with Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. "Their visions come to us all the time, so I think they did a great job of preparing us for this day."
One of the first things the new quartet did was lock in Justin Hartley for at least 12 episodes as Green Arrow/Oliver Queen, a fan favorite who appeared frequently in Season 6 and once last season. He'll start this new chapter by gathering Aquaman and Black Canary to rescue Clark. Alan Ritchson and Alaina Huffman will reprise their roles, as will Phil Morris, whose Martian Manhunter also appears in the opener, titled "Odyssey."
This season's theme is "double identities," Souders says. "It's about the Superman identity emerging as Clark Kent tries to maintain a normal life — or the appearance of a normal life." To that end, he takes a job at the "Daily Planet," right across the desk from Lois Lane (Erica Durance).
"The camaraderie as they work side-by-side that everyone loves from the DC Comics and all the Superman lore is going to come to fruition this year," Souders says. "The two of them are thrown together in some unfortunate situations for Clark. She becomes a little bit of an obstacle to him saving the world, when he's on a deadline."
-Season 8 begins several months after Season 7. - Clark is brought home by some (possibly) surprising rescuers.
UPDATED 6/23/08: The title of this episode is Odyssey.
-Justin Hartley will return in this episode, and will have a scene with Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer) at the Luthor Mansion where Lex is presumed dead by the state. In the following scene, Clark meets Tess, who says that Clark is the last person who saw Lex alive. She also says that she finds it mysterious that "a random farm boy would end up being so entangled in the Luthor family." Tess refers to Lex's fate in this scene as "his disappearance," even though he is declared dead in the previous scene.
UPDATED 5/23/08: Since the Season Seven DVD set will be released on September 9, Season Eight will begin a week or two later, meaning the Season 8 premiere will air either September 18 or 25.
Written By: Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead Directed By: Rick Rosenthal Guest Stars: Jessica Parker Kennedy (Bette Sans Souci) UPDATED 7/27/08: We might have forgotten to mention that Jessica Parker Kennedy (Pictured Right) will be portraying Bette Sans Souci/Plastique. UPDATED 7/7/08: Bette has a connection to Level 33.1 or something very much like it. UPDATED 7/3/08: "Plastique" does involve Bette Sans Souci, the character from the DC Comics universe. In this version she is a "15 year old street kid" who is injured in an explosion, and Chloe asks her to move in. Contrary to some reports that Chloe will be serving time for a while... in actuality, Chloe will no longer be incarcerated by the time this episode happens.
- Roles now being cast, (including the role of Bette) are the following: A Security Agent, A Young Cop, A Medic, Tommy, A Clerk, and two CSI's...
- Justin Hartley (Oliver) and Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy) do not appear in this episode. This episode will explore Clark's first day on his new job and his teaming with Lois.
- The character of paramedic Davis Bloom makes his first appearance in this episode, and he interacts primarily with Chloe.
There is a DC Comics villain named Plastique from Firestorm and Captain Atom comics, though we are not sure if that character has any connection to this episode's title.
Written By: Caroline Dries UPDATED 8/27/08: Oliver's poisoning causes Lois to revisit her feelings for him as she visits him in the hospital. After Oliver is poisoned, Chloe calls a paramedic she knows (cue Davis Bloome) for what might be the first meeting between Davis and Clark. UPDATED 7/2/08: Jimmy Olsen (Played by Aaron Ashmore) will not appear in Toxic. UPDATED 7/14/08: Roles now being cast for 8.03 "Toxic" now include a Reporter, someone named Marcos, Guard, someone named Angelica, a woman named Megan, and a Police Officer.
Directed By: Mairzee Almas
- In the episode, Oliver is poisoned and collapses at a fund raiser tying in with the release of the Warrior Angel movie... an appearance from Christian Millian may be likely...
- Chloe and Clark attend the fund raiser together.
Written By: Al Septien & Turi Meyer UPDATED 8/28/08: TVGuide.com has revealed that actress Charlotte Sullivan has been cast in the role of Maxima. UPDATED 7/27/08: Rumors have been proven true, and it seems that 'Melissa' is just a disguised name for MAXIMA, who WILL be appearing in this episode. UPDATED 7/22/08: Clark and Jimmy learn about the letter Chloe wrote to Clark back in 'Fever.' UPDATED 7/17/08: Initially, rumors for this episode said that Maxima would be appearing in this one, but we are hearing this is not the case.
Directed By: James Conway
Guest Stars: Charlotte Sullivan (Maxima)
- It is very likely that Shelby the dog will be making a return appearance.
- After finding the letter, Jimmy asks Chloe why she's never said those things about him, and Chloe tells Jimmy that his insecurity about Clark is wearing thin.
- Chloe does some investigating for Clark to try and find out who Maxima is.
- Tess goes to an unexpected source for help in finding Lex.
- Maxima uses her powers to seduce Clark, and Lois walks in on them in an elevator.
- Clark offers Lois "her old room back" at the very empty Kent Farm.
Instead, a superpowerd girl named Melissa appears in this one... and shes got the hots for Clark. She kisses him and he tries to resist,, but can't.
Directed By: Glen Winter
UPDATED 8/28/05: From TVGuide.com: Clark and Lois will be "forced" to make like lovebirds as they investigate some strange goings-on involving a crazy guy and a Moment of Truth-esque lie detector "game." In the course of this, Lois and Clark find themselves engaged in a smooch. |
UPDATED 7/28/08: Somebody has been abducting young couples, including Chloe and Jimmy. Lois and Clark pose as a couple themselves to investigate. Also... Lois proves herself to be a supporter of a Chloe & Clark pairing. (Meaning she supports Chlark)
Written By: Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders
Directed By: Michael Rohl
Guest Stars: Phil Morris (John Jones/Martian Manhunter)
UPDATED 8/28/08: Never one to keep an episode's plotline a secret, Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello explains the plot of "Prey" with more detail: "Clark and Chloe find themselves on opposing sides when a serial killer starts wreaking havoc on Metroplis in this season's sixth episode. Clark suspects Davis/Doomsday is the culprit, but Chloe's having none of it. Strengthening Clark's resolve: D/D just so happens to blackout whenever there's a new murder."
The four series regulars in this episode will be Clark, Chloe, Jimmy, and Davis Bloome.
- Clark and Chloe disagree on an issue relating to the violent things that are happening around Metropolis.
Roles now being cast for "Prey" include a Guard, Paramedic #1, Paramedic #2, Jesse, Lost Girl, Crying Girl, Chief of Police, Randy, Mary, Distraught Mother, Thugs, Boy, Robber, Bartender, and Bloody Teen Boy. Sounds pretty violent, doesn't it?
UPDATED 8/28/08: Jimmy takes a photo of a red and blue blur, and Clark is determined to keep him from finding out the truth about who has been saving the day.
Written By: Geoff Johns
UPDATED 7/28/08: It turns out our suspicions were correct, Geoff John will be writing episode nine, and it will be titled Legion.
-The Legion of Superheroes appear, flight rings and all, and they are from 1000 years into the future.
-Their origins will stay as close to the comics as possible.
UPDATED 8/28/08: Laura Vandervoort will be returning for one episode in October.
UPDATED 7/27/08: Kristin Kreuk is now only set to appear in five episode instead of seven, and she will be appearing in the November episodes, for November sweeps.
Also, GEOFF JOHNS of DC fame is writing an episode featuring the LEGION OF SUPERHEOROES, with the Legion rings and all. What does this mean for Clark? We don't know. But we have heard that 8.09 is the probable episode for the Legion, and it would be likely that the episode (8.09) is titled Legion, and if it is 8.09, it will probably air November 13, 2008.
UPDATED 7/9/08: TV Guide's Ausiello has revealed that we may see a Chloe/Doomsday/Jimmy love triangle this season. Also, he had a few words to say on Lois and Clark at the Daily Planet: "There will be a lot more comdey this season, courtesy of those new adventures Lois and Clark will be embarking on."
UDATED 7/08/08: It has been announced that Season 8 begins on September 18, 2008.
UPDATED 6/20/08: The Official Press Release covering the casting of Tess and Doomsday has been released. “SMALLVILLE” BRACES FOR ARRIVAL OF NEW VILLAINS Sam Witwer (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Cassidy Freeman (“Finishing the Game”) Join Cast of Hit Series for Eighth Season This Fall Witwer will play Davis Bloome, a charismatic Metropolis paramedic who – when he isn’t saving people – is forced to confront a burgeoning darkness inside of him that just might be a harbinger of doom. Freeman will play Tess Mercer. Handpicked by Lex Luthor to succeed him before he vanished, Tess arrives in Smallville as acting CEO of LuthorCorp. Beneath her mysterious allure lies a cunning ruthlessness to match her mentor’s. “We’re thrilled that Sam and Cassidy will be joining the cast, and we have some very exciting things in store for them, their characters and ‘Smallville’ fans for this season,” said executive producers Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer in a joint statement. “They are both incredibly talented performers, and we cannot wait to begin to work with them.” Best known for his role as Alex “Crashdown” Quartararo on the acclaimed series “Battlestar Galactica,” Witwer is also featured in the forthcoming “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” video game. His previous credits include “Stephen King’s The Mist” (written and directed by Frank Darabont) and guest-starring roles on a number of series, including “Dexter,” “Cold Case,” “Enterprise,” “Angel,” “Dark Angel” and “ER,” among many others. Freeman previously appeared in the feature film “Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee,” which debuted at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Her other television and motion picture credits include a guest-starring role on “Cold Case,” the made-for-television movie “An Accidental Christmas,” the independent film “Shades of Gray,” and shorts “Clock” and “Razor Sharp,” among others. From Tollin/Robbins Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, “Smallville” is executive produced by Kelly Souders, Brian Peterson, Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. - Now, we already know that Davis Bloome is Doomsday. People have been guessing for a while now who Tess really is.... and guys.... if Tess MERCER isn't a hint, I don't know what is. UPDATED 6/19/08: Sam Witwer has been cast as Davis Bloome/Doomsday and Cassidy Freeman has been cast as Tess. 6/06/08: Lex will have disappeared and will be presumed dead.
BURBANK, Calif. (June 19, 2008) – Rocked by the mysterious death of Lionel Luthor and the sudden disappearance of his son, Lex, the town of Smallville will be put further on edge this fall with the arrival of two new villains, as Sam Witwer (“Battlestar Galactica”) and Cassidy Freeman (“Finishing the Game: The Search for a New Bruce Lee”) join the cast of “Smallville” (Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW) as series regulars for the hit show’s eighth season.
- Don't be surprised if Ollie is back as early as the season premiere (perhaps to break Chloe out?)
UPDATED 6/04/08: It has yet again been confirmed that Kristin Kreuk will be returning for six or seven episodes, which was said several months ago as well. -Justin Hartley (Oliver J. Queen/The Green Arrow) will be returning to Smallville as a series regular this season.
- Erica Durance is again contracted for 12-13 episodes as Lois, but this number can be increased if Lois is needed for more episodes.
The CW has also released what will be the other screen tests for Tess and Davis Bloome.
- Oliver visits Tess at Luthor Mansion. It is revealed that Lex has been declared dead by the state.
- Tess is depressed and lost, and does not beleive that Lex has ever done anything wrong. Oliver tells her that "the Lex you knew didn't exist."
- The scene with Clark and Tess has been revised, and Tess makes a reference to a rumor that Clark is the last person who saw Lex alive. She also notes that she finds it mysterious that "a random farm boy would end up being so entangled in the Luthor family." Although Lex is declared dead by the state in the Oliver/Tess scene, Tess refers to Lex's fate in this scene as "his disappearance."
UPDATED 5/15/08: It is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest shots; whether or not they will be successful at getting him remains to be seen.
- If Laura Vandervoort does not return as a series regular, it is likely that Kara will remain in the Phantom Zone until she can be rescued.
- Phil Morris may be returning as the Martian Manhunter in Season 8, and James Marsters has expressed interest in more appearances as Brainiac.
UPDATED 5/10/08: The casting process has begun for the two new characters of Smallville Season 8, and we have some hits as to what their first scenes may include. Keep in mind that these introductory scenes might not be what hits the air in September. For example, when producers were casting for Jason Teague back in 2004, there was a scene involving Lana and a Vespa that did not get filmed in the actual show. DAVIS BLOOME: The "screen test" scenes involving Davis Bloome take place at the Ace O'Clubs bar. All of his scenes involve his character interacting, and in some ways dangerously flirting with, Lois. TESS: Tess introduces herself to Clark as she is snooping around the Kent Farm, and Clark catches her.
- They first meet when Lois comes into the bar with a guy on her mind - a "really confusing, mysterious and oddly sexy friend."
- Later, Davis wakes up on the couch at the Ace O'Clubs with stains of blood on his hand. He claims it's because a waitress broke a tray of glasses. Or is it something else, something more violent?
- Davis aggressively demands that Lois not tell anyone about what she sees.
- She is introduced as the person who is in charge of Lex Luthor's estate "in his absence." She also knows very well about the Kents' connections to Lionel Luthor.
- In another scene, Tess confronts Jimmy in the Daily Planet archive room, and knows all about the deal that he had made to work for Lex.
UPDATED 5/7/08: Casting breakdowns have gone out for the two new characters of Smallville Season 8. Here's what they are looking for. Could "Davis Bloome" be an alter ego for "Doomsday" and "Tess" be short for "Tessmacher?" Watch and see... DAVIS BLOOME: 26, Charming and handsome. Davis is the new bartender at TESS: 28, Drop Dead Gorgeous. Determined. Sexy. Vengeful. And with amped physical strength. While Lex is away, she is in control of his estate and rules it with aggression. She's had intellect and the confidence all her life, though it's obvious she's had some training from Lex, as well. But as much as Lex has helped fortify her power, he is also her biggest weakness. She harbors an undying devotion to Lex, claiming he saved her life a few years ago. She carries out his wishes with coercion, force, seduction and anything to get what she wants, and no one can resist her beguiling ways. Even Clark Kent. She doesn't remember anything before the day she met Lex. Once she realizes her previous life is buried below the surface, she's desperate to dig it up...SERIES REGULAR.
the hip Metropolis lounge. Ace of Clubs, where he plays down his smoldering good looks with a self-effacing wit and down-to-earth soulfulness. Despite the ease with which Davis relates to his new

UPDATED 5/6/08: More spoilers for Season Eight - Due to Al and Miles leaving, Clark may fly in Season 8. It has also been said that Clark will begin wearing glasses next season. Also, Clark and Lois get closer together. Season 8 will be the final season. Lori Lemaris MAY be in Season 8.
UPDATED 5/1/08: Michael Rosenbaum will not be returning as a series regular for Season 8. Negotiations are continuing to try and bring Allison Mack back next year. Kristin Kreuk will be back for at least part of Season Eight.
Tom Welling, Aaron Ashmore, Laura Vandervoort, and Erica Durance are all still said to be signed and expected to return for the show's eighth year. John Glover was also still on contract, though we saw from "Descent" that there was a change in plans.
Two new characters have been announced for Season 8:
Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on “Smallville” for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.
Female villain: Doomsday won’t be Clark’s only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

UPDATED 6/19/08: We neglected to mention that the two commentaries on the DVD Set are PERSONA, with a commentary by John Glover, (Lionel Luthor) and SIREN, with a commentary from Justin Hartley. (Green Arrow/Oliver Queen)
